Reelpolitik Film: The Arrow

January 16, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$50

Amazing Aircraft. Agonizing Decision. The Avro Arrow Story on Film.

Join us for the next Reelpolitik film night featuring the CBC Miniseries, “The Arrow”. Much mystique surrounds the development of the Avro Arrow back in the mid to late 1950s. The CF 105 Arrow was the first combat aircraft prototype ever to break the sound barrier while climbing straight up. Come and see the detailed film about this remarkable Canadian designed & built airplane and highlights that cover the drama that occurred during its brief life. Club member C. Coupal, watched the Arrow saga from 1957 onward as a shareholder of Hawker Siddley Canada, builder of the Arrow’s powerful Orenda jet engines. He also visited the manufacturing facility at Downsview and had a chance to listen to comments from the last people familiar with the Arrow’s final days and what forced Prime Minister Diefenbaker’s decision on it. He will chat briefly about this and a 10 minute recorded interview with the late Professor Michael Bliss.
