Author Series Luncheon: Jean Chrétien Canada’s Most Conservative Prime Minister

December 14, 2017 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Guest Speaker: Bob Plamondon

Until now, the story of Jean Chrétien’s time as prime minister has been largely misunderstood. His critics have said he was a man with no vision and a short attention span — a small-town hick who stumbled his way to become Canada’s 20th prime minister. Whatever credit the Chrétien government deserved was often given to Paul Martin, the heir apparent who was touted to be the brains behind the operation.

In his recently released book Bob Plamondon reveals the untold story of how Chrétien led Canada’s most Conservative administration; how he out-smarted Quebec separatists; and how he withstood the pressure to keep Canada out of the Iraq war.  Clever as a fox, Jean Chretien gave us a master class in political leadership and nation-building in a critical period in Canadian history.
